Outer Spaces, Inner Feelings (2025)

Shared urban spatial perceptions

How does the urban environment affect us every day? What emotions does it evoke in us, and what does our body say about it?

Our performative walk invites you to explore the sensations and bodily reactions experienced in urban space. We examine the dynamics between the built environment and emotions and bodily sensations to better understand how the city shapes our physical and mental well-being.

Our goal is to more consciously perceive the messages of our body: How do we move in a given space? How does our breathing change? What feelings do freedom, silence or chaos evoke in us?

Following the motto of the EMPOWERmental project – “Feel at home in your body and in the world” – we will jointly search for the answer to how different urban spaces affect us.

The performance is a joint experiment that invites you to pay attention to the messages of your body and the effects of the urban environment. We often react to buildings, streets, squares without realizing it – but now we stop, experience and play with these effects.

During the event:

  • We connect with our bodies with simple exercises and tasks to observe how we feel in different urban locations.
  • Through individual and group experiments, we seek new perspectives on the built environment – in movement, sensations, and emotions.
  • Finally, we close with a joint reflection over a warm drink, where we record the experiences that arise.

This performance is the first stop in a longer research-performance series that we will continue in Vienna and Barcelona.
